Default Amazon Wheel sizing/ET Help please

I'm hoping someone could help me here please (maybe 222s - I've seen you're very knowledgable on such topics)

I would like to run a set of US Wheels 15x6 fronts with a backspacing of 3 1/2" and either the same on the rear or possibly 15x7 with a backspacing of 4".

Could anyone advise if these will work, would i need spacers and advise on tyre sizes would be very appreciated.

I have to be honest in that I find this part very confusing.

I should also mention the car B20 131 has a 100mm lowering kit and the wheels id like to run are here - http://www.northhantstyres.com/wheel...od/5-4.50.html

Really appreciate any advice anyone can give.

Thanks

100mm drop, eeeeek! I hope you've sorted the shocks and the front geometry or it will drive like a big pig. Sorry can't help with the wheels except that the prices aren't bad if you like the style.
Don't drive over too many matchsticks.

MD;

Welcome to this forum!

I have to agree with Derek (as usual!)... 100mm lowered, wide wheels and rubber, looks great on a show car, but in the real world, you won't be able to drive over a painted line without issues! I don't wish to rain on anyone's parade, but I'd slow down with the (hyper)modifications a bit!

I recommend you start with the typical 40mm lowering kits, 70 series rubber on nothing wider than 6" wheels...this will still allow you to turn the Steering wheel and park the car at low speeds...and if your goal is to improve handling (not just looks, as above!), start with front and rear Anti-Sway Bars (such as IPD stage 2), OE springs, gas shocks, modern tires on 6" wheels...you will love the (more reasonable) handling and appearance result!

Good Hunting!

100mm is far too much to drive a Amazon, my 2 cents. Do what you like and never proclaim about this ****ty ride. I know a few who have this, I drove 2 of them and I don't like it. The roll center is far below the ground. Terrific in fast corners without very hard springs and very thick arb. Looks good? Maybe
Don't forget: this car has suspension from the 50'!!! They know it better nowadys.

About the wheel dimension ask Vintageperformance, he is here too with his yellow 122 and 6 in front and 7 in back. Not lowered because......
Good luck, keep clear of corners and every small thing, Kay

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your comments so far. I have specialist springs, shocks, Panhard roll bar etc all designed expecially for this drop on order, and to be fair it doesn't sit as low as it sounds (see pic of one with same set up below). I'm also probably going to run 16" wheels now which will also give me a little clearence back.
I've spoke to a few guys running the same set up and they're very happy with it and everything can be returned to stock if required.

Still confused about the wheel offsets/backspace i should be looking at however.

Oh and this is my car:

Cool

I do know the red/white car. It's very tasty especially as it is a B16. I had one just like it, same cours, back in '67. I have pictures taken the last 3 years at the Battlesbridge show. I've chatted to the owner but the amount it's lowered wasn't mentioned. I think it was standard height in 2014 from the pic I have and lowered in the next two years pictures. I would still guess that the drop is less than 100mm and more at the front than the back. Classicswede knows how his short springs look and may like to comment.
Your car looks great. Maybe too nice to mod but that's just my opinion. Your bikes may indicate your rod/custom interests. I am on your side for that.

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the response - The parts are actually coming from Dai @ Classic Swede and that's the picture he sent me of the 100mm drop so fingers crossed it won't be any lower - I would have gone 80mm but the springs are not progressive like the 100mm ones.

The car is actually already on minilites (which i'm changing) and Bilsteins with rally springs so really i'm not making any further changes to whats already been done, just different ones.

Don't worry I wouldn't do anything that couldn't be easily reversed - i'm certainly not going to be cutting the car, just enjoying putting my stamp on it.

I've often wondered what the spring lowering distance actually refers to, the length of the unloaded spring or the reduction in vehicle height? This is because a stronger spring will be compressed less by the weight of the car hence not lowering the car by the by the same amount.

Should be fine....just don't do a boy racer and go beyond Dai's kit. I MOT cars and fail a few where there is no travel , and no bump stops!! Nexy time you pass a lowered VW or Peugeot with ten ton of negative camber a dustbin exhaust .....he is not smiling...oh no..he is clenching his teeth and bracing himself over the smallest amount of road gravel
