Default V50 Love/Hate

Can anyone tell me why an Immobiliser would refuse to start the car with either key, and then work perfectly after removing the battery earth lead for 20 seconds..is this common or just the beginning of the end...? All electrics worked fine but turning the key to start the engine just cut all power to the clock and dash...

I love the car when it behaves but I'm starting to feel nervous about the reliability..
A new battery is £ 89 locally, not sure if it's a battery, key or electronics issue and no idea who to talk to about wires !!

Any help welcome on this..

The ignition key modules can play up on these cars, so that might be your problem.

Not sure how easy a fix it is - most things are coded to the individual car so although you see them on the likes of eBay there is no guarantee that it would just be plug and play. Might need re-coding by Volvo or might even be something that can't be re-coded and you need to start with a brand new one.

Others will know better...Clan, where are you?

Not saying it is that, just strikes me as a possible candidate.

If it's a good car otherwise, don't give up on it just yet!

Not clear on what the problem is.
After disconnecting battery it's reset itself and all working fine now ?
You can get the battery checked for free at Halfords.
What year is it ?

It's a 2010 Diesel Auto SE.. I've never been more disappointed with a car in my life.. 44,000 miles on the clock and 2 owners. It's got a habit of jumping between 1st and 2nd and then 1st gears again if I don't creep around.. the Volvo Garage, and a Volvo specialist recommend a £4000 gearbox renewal.. (I'll just have to creep around a bit longer)The service required lights come on when they feel like it.. and now this.. a car that won't start, no codes displayed and then removing the earth terminal for 10 seconds has it running fine again...

I'll put a new battery on it even if the Bosch one dated 2014 is deemed fine by the local Halfords, but after that I'm giving up with it.. 3 months of drama from a low mileage Ford, sorry, Volvo, isn't what I thought I was signing up for...

All helpful comments are appreciated and any advice on any of the dramas is welcome.. Especially from anyone who's had similar experiences with a happy ending...
