I meant that 95 RON is the minimum quality fuel for the engine, it's not a bad thing but the combustion process is more prone to 'pinking' or pre-ignition on 95 as the temps are a bit higher, the knock sensor will retard the ignition if it senses pre-ignition but the process isn't ideal. This is only a theory of mine and to be fair the T5 is quite 'fuel heavy' so I've never heard mine pinking under load.

98 RON is just better and helps the engine achieve best results safely.

Oh ok I get it now, thanks for clarification. Although I thought T5 is "recommended" for 95 and also optimised as such.
Never had a chance to try mine with 98, sadly (no such thing in this weird country, cant understand why...) but I can assume it would be either better or atleast the same. Not sure if it would optimise itself for better octane?

It'll basically work fine on 95 but 98 is recommended for best performance.

It costs more but it burns cleaner and produces a better spark. The ECU in our cars adapt to the fuel over time so over a tank or two you'll start to notice bit of a difference.

In my old T4 I had to use 95 a few times and it felt 'flat' compared to V-Power, may have been a placebo effect though. I always run V-Power on my T5 so can't compare with this engine.

My parents have a 2009 S40 T5 R-Design that's been run on ASDA fuel all it's life from new and seems fine....

Same as my 9-5's engine, recommended 98 RON, but will run on 95 with reduced performance. I've only ever put 98 in it since I got it, previous owner ran it on that too.
