Am I best getting it recovered to dealers in that case? Or anyone know a Volvo specialist local to Bolton/manchester they can recommend?
Is the car still within the 3 years warranty period?

If so, you should be able to use the Volvo recovery service, details of which should be in the handbook.

If you get the car serviced at a Volvo Dealer, the breakdown cover is automatically extended for a further 12 months.

Oh ok, All services done at Volvo until now. Does that mean the warranty shud be extended 12/12. The car is just outside of its 3 year warranty. So would be worth ringing and asking volvo 2mrw.

No your warranty will not be extended but you get 12 months breakdown/recovery cover, you still have to pay for parts and labour to get it fixed unless its a simple roadside fix.
To extend the warranty for a further year you have to purchase it before the 3 year warranty runs out, some dealers may contact Volvo to ask for some good will if a car is just out of warranty.
It would be worth asking about this or contacting Volvo UK yourself if its an expensive job.

Rang Volvo assitance earlier, they say I will be entitled to breakdown recovery once I book in and get a service done at the dealer. Unfortunately doesnt help my cause in getting it to a workshop! I will just have to ring around and get a company with skates willing to recover. Or maybe try the AA and see if it’s applicable.

I used to use a specialist in Chorley, maybe was called Bromleys, but think that they may no longer be trading.

The parking brake will only be on the rear wheels, make sure you read the owners manual section on lifting and or towing your vehicle before moving it, especially if you have air suspension,
Did you ask the dealer if there is a way of taking the parking brake off without engine the running.

Reading that I'm going to assume you did not buy it as an approved used from Volvo as that would come with an additional 12 months warranty or something with the option to extend I think??

Sorry pal but you absolutely need to get the car back into some sort of Volvo warranty after you have solved your current issue as there are so many potentially ruinously expensive issues at play with these cars.

Best of luck.

It needs to go somewhere with the right diagnostics or it will be a blind alley.

2 members on here had this issue and it turned out to be a sensor in the steering rack, but it could just as easily be the brake pedal switch or any one of many, many things

Thumbs up

Thanks for your input guys. I contacted Volvo Hatfields in Bury today who wernt really interested in my situation regarding recovery or handbrake issue. I was told I would be called back by the workshop controller but I got a call back To advise no technical team member would answer a call whilst in the service area! Just said I could book it in for a diagnostic check for £180ish. Didnt feel right taking it there so ive decided to use a Volvo Specialist in Radcliffe with the appropriate diagnostics I am led to believe. After a bit of drama managed to get AA to arrange a recovery with all 4 wheels on skates. It is now at the workshop. I will let you know what 2mrw brings.

Where did you buy it? Private sale, Auction or from a dealer? You should have redress against a dealer, it is only 3 weeks since you bought it.....

btw, which model is it D5/T6/T8 and which trim? What is your mileage?
