I really do not understand what the problem is with DRL. Everyone will have them very soon. If it helps those insecure owners who want to be different then maybe they need to buy a different non Volvo car without DRL and keep it. Stop worrying about what other people may or may not think about the way your car looks. Use of additional power etc and trying to be "Eco" is a very weak argument. Get a life.

A very eloquent and well rounded perspective posted at 1 am in the morning.
Lancashire clearly has an interesting gene pool Quote:

XC60 daytime lights
[QUOTE=Jay;536341] I suggest you get rid of the day running lights (should cost approx £35 for software download & labour) and have the flexibilty to switch between parking lights & night lights.
Yup - that's what I have had to do. But as as said above it does mean that it's easy to leave the sidelights on when not needed. Of course you could drive on dipped headlights all the time and everything goes off with the ignition but of course that defeats the whole objective of disabling the running lights ............Hmmmm Chris |

My two penny worth .... I've got a MY07 XC90 SE Lux with active bi-xenons and when I collected it (new) I was asked whether I wanted the DRL on or off.
I decided to leave them on as that is how they came from the factory so I would imagine that the bulbs, or bi-xenons in my case, and circuitry would be up to the job. On the topic of making it easier to see you this is not always the case. If the sun is behind you particularly on a typical winters day then it is often better to have your lights off. This creates a shadow to anyone looking toward the sun so helps them see you; DRL fill the shadow. On the subject of insurance, like a number of other posters on this thread and a related one, I have too many years experience within the industry. Whilst I agree with others that any modification must be advised to underwriters and you must get it noted in writing, Underwriters will in all likelyhood only cause you problems if your lighting / visibility was a factor in the claim. Any reputable insurer is more concerned about the bad publicity they will get and the costs they would incur when you take the matter to the insurance ombudsman if they try and decline the claim, common sense will prevail. It is worth remembering that even when the law changes and all new cars will have DRL illuminated all the time, there are an awful lot of 'old' cars still out there ie the majority of vehicles on the road, that will not have them Dave. |

I can understand wanting to turn off DLR to stop you looking like a burk! But to turn them off in order to save some money is really bizarre, the car costs an absolute fortune, will lose half that fortune in 3 years, cost loads in insurance, servicing and fuel.
I expect that Volvo drivers without DRL get flashed by other driver during the daytime to warn them their lights do not work! In 2 years every new car will have DRL, just get used to it! |
