C70 - bonnet release stuck on one side
I opened the bonnet of the C70 yesterday to change the headlight bulbs. Job done, shut the bonnet.
Went to it today to start looking at the braking system as mum mentioned the pedal has quite a bit of travel and the bonnet would not open. Pulling on the bonnet release lever in the footwell, it feels fine but suddenly, only releases the drivers side corner latch and I can lift it enough to get to the lever under the grill. However, the latch on the passenger side is no releasing the bonnet, no matter what I try. Does anyone have any experience of how to open these 70' bonnets in this situation?

Have someone pull up on the bonnet at the same time as pulling the release lever.

or wedge something like a rag and a roll of tape on its side under the side of the bonnet that opens to create gentle upwards force and try the bonnet pull again

The latch mechanism is the same as on the 850s - you'll need to get to the joint where the bonnet release pull cable joins the inner cross cable or rod (depends upon the year!) that runs under the top of the slam panel from the O/S latch to the nearside latch- the easiest way to get the cross link connector is via the O/S indicator light and pull on the cross cable or rod from there - you can get the O/S indicator lamp out by pushing down on the springs that hold the indicator lamp reflector in place and then wriggle your hand into the space to pull on cable/rod joint.
It is a bit of a fiddle but it worked for my 850 some years ago.

Had a search around on line and came across the method used by Robert on www.RobertDIY.com just reverse the US driver's side for the UK driver's side (it is basically the same as I've posted above but the video makes it so much easier to follow..

You need to access the part of the cable or rod that runs from the O/S latch to the nearside latch - whilst the cable variant is prone to stretching, the weak point is at the cable junction - I'm sure there was a tensioner which I adjusted on my old 850 - ie a screw joint connector which enables the removal of slack in the cross link in the system to the N/S latch - if the O/S latch works and the N/S doesn't the problem has to be at the joint for the cross cable/rod, or a broken or detached cross cable, or failing either of those a detached rod or detached cable stop/ball at the N/S latch.

Thanks for that. I’ll try to trip the indicator out but in the video, it’s much looser than in reality. I’ll try and hunt amazon for a few suitable tools to try and trip the indicator out.
