C70 - bonnet release stuck on one side

You can pull out the indicator w a long skinny knife and a well placed stab (if u look between the panels u can see the white/gray plastic to stab... And a wire coathook does the other half...had to do it when my battery died...

Alternatively just pull the lever in the footwell hard and suddenly... It unlatches both sides most of the time

Good shout on the knife!
I opened the bonnet of the other c70 and can see that with the right tool the indicator latch can be accessed via the panel gap between bonnet and wing.

Just got to wait until next Saturday until I’m back home.

Done it myself w a long knife and a wire coathook, so i know it works... Without any special tools... But be ready, probably you gotta do it on both side...

On the other hand, a sudden and strong pull usually unlatches both sides for me, so that worth a try as well

Done it!!!

Firstly thanks to all for the suggestions and using the Robert DIY link is the way to do it but, its actually much harder than the video suggests.

The tools needed/used are below;



The issue appears to be something wrong with the cable that goes from the drivers latch to the passenger latch. So, I will order a new cable.

Whilst it took me 2.5 hours to do it, it can be done in about 30 minutes or so.

The trick is, to use the mirror, so you can actually see what you are doing as prior to this, trying to feel your way around prodding around the catch wasted me 2 hours and got me no where.

I have now fed a section of coat hanger wire through the tiny hole in that latch catch that roberdiy says you need to flick, making a temporary thing I can pull/tug on once releasing the indicator to release the passenger side hood catch.

Just completed a similar exercise on a ’97 V70 as a belt & braces precaution: ~
On the above the two locks need to be pulled to the left (standing in front etc.) so the routing of an additional pull cable/cord will vary- the locks have a very considerate hole already done in each pull mechanism so these are ideal.
I decided to use a length of the inner electrical cable from a redundant hoover I think- just go and borrow Henry from the wife! Oops!
The right hand side is threaded through the vacant hole & double knotted in a position that does not interfere with the standard cable pull.
The right hand side can be dropped down beside the radiator through the accesses hole (engine/sump guard) for the radiator drain tap- I drilled a small hole next to the larger one looping the cable and tied it off; both sides need to have a clear pull action avoiding snags.
The left hand side is a little more complicated as you have no clear pull areas- I found that the most direct point is towards the indicator light- with the cable pushed/hidden towards the radiator side, make sure you have left additional spare cable that can be fished out for the day.
A cheap simple fix that after reading various forum mail on the subject-will come in handy one day!

The part of the latch that needs to be flicked and has a small hole through which you can thread a wire



Leave enough of it so you can get to it easily when needed and just tuck it out of the way
