Had this problem for a few weeks now, very intermittent
starts ok
revs ok
when driving, stutters and kangaroos and makes a horrible clattering noise with lots of black smoke untill the engine is up to top running temp then it's like flicking a switch and it runs like a dream, happens maybe every other day
Fuel filter changed
Throttle body cleaned
EGR blanked (for about 12 months)
Had codes read last week and it was like reading war and peace.
Cleared codes to let it come up with it''s own codes related to the problem
These are:

1/ 0406 Egr signal too high/faulty

2/0380 Glow plug relay faulty signal

3/P0192 Fuel pressure signal too low

4/ 120F Fuel pressure control valve faulty signal

5/0002 Fuel volume control valve faulty signal

6/ Fuel pressure no signal

Had a faulty fuel pressure sensor fault last year and it ran crap all the time and not intermittently,
My local garage suspects glow plugs after a similar problem with a focus but not sure
Any ideas of what it could be or what I could check would be much appreciated

cheers

No white smoke on start up, get the clattering when warmed up.
Ran like a pig this morning, frosty -2 then ran not so bad this afternoon +6 degrees so thinking coolant temp sensor

If you'd be so kind, I'd appreciate PM or posted details of a local-ish Volvo specialist who knows his stuff too. I'm in Leighton Buzzard, Hemel or Chesham most of the time.

Thanks!

So I fitted a new coolant temp sensor (pig of a job)
Start car and it purrs, take it for a run and it flys, runs like a new one then goes into limp on return journey
Find that is blowing fuse F35, had this before, after 3 fuses and a bit of poking around, starts up, eml goes out and it runs like a dream again, but....
Turn it off, go back to it 2 hours later, won't start and now stuck on the drive,
Turns over, getting fuel, TB ok, all fuses ok just won't fire
Well fed up now stuck on drive and can't get to garage to get codes read

any ideas welcomed

cheers
