I have the same plug on mine. Could be seat belt warning sensor? Seams to work by weight/ pressure on seat.

We really need a wiring diagram!

James.

James, that's not a bad shout. Odd that the leather seat coming in lacks that connector so I wonder if it is...

Cheers.

Download and save a copy, it's someone elses originally (Aardvark Ash) so i can't take the credit but he made it available and i saved the link to it.

As far as i know, there is no seat belt warning switch in the seat on the drivers side as the system assumes if you have put the key in, you're sat in the seat - however there is a buckle switch to cancel the warning and also illumination on some models of the seat belt buckle.

Really very useful indeed. Thank you very much.

I am trying to source an original plug with tail. If unavailable, I will hard wire it with spade terminals and fill the seat end of the plug with sikaflex (as recommended by another member on here.

Cheers.

You're welcome

Volvo should be able to supply the original plugs and terminals, you'll need a pair of crimping pliers for uninsulated "W" crimp terminals, so nicknamed because the shape when complete is similar to a rounded "W". A budget pair :

https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co....74/category/87

Alternatively treat yourself to a nice ratcheting pair - they're much easier to use!

An alternative to the connector from Volvo could be found here :

https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product_list/7

Plenty to chose from there, they need to be fairly high (20-30A) current for the motors but only about 4-5A for the seat heaters.

For pals wondering which page of the (very handy) linked wiring diagram corresponds to swat movement functions, it. Is P27.

The diagram asks for black to be earthed/grounded and the three other pins inside the 4 pin connector beneath the seat need 12V+

Also see Pgs 35 & 46 - the green and black wires in the 2-way plug are the seat belt switches so go careful about throwing +12V at ALL the wires, some might be earth switched when you put the seatbelt on the buckle!

Ahoy chums,

I have completed the swap.

Riddle me this... I went to a local scrappy, it had a car of the same year (with a snail under the bonnet) with half leather heated seats, manually adjusted. Depite that, the thing was wired for electric seats.

Hacked off plug and nice long tail of wire, pulled fuseboard and cut out a few spade terminals with tails, got a heated seat relay from beneath pass seat. Socially distanced pick-your own and only cost me a fiver.

Came back. Tested seat functions by connecting plug and using a battery. everything worked. Phew.

Old seat out (the little key-ways are such a pig). Wired threaded up to back of fuseboard. Spade soldered on to give all 3 coloured wires 12V. Spade shoved firmly onto back of fuse10. Eathed onto handbrake switch. wiring tidied away. Seat in, bolt down, check everything. Memory, up, down, back forward and all memories work.

Had heated seat switches apart. they seem to work so thats good.

Thanks for your patience and generosity. I don't think there can be any trouble doing this job again. Hopefully others find this useful too. The only upgrade from here would be a low mieage set of V90 seats or something similarly lovely.

Cheers,

F

Thanks for the update, great news. What luck in not only finding a volvo but a 940 in the scrapyard. Not only that but had what you needed! Lottery tomorrow, for you!

Which 3 coloured wires did you join together and connect to? Take it relay under passenger seat connected to the 4 way plug.

James

Hello!

I have some 1997 V70 front seats which I'd like to swap into my 940. The 940 seats are manual and I think the drivers seat is electric from the V70, but it doesn't matter too much to me as it will never move once i get it into the right position.

Anyway, mechanically, will they fit? Is swapping them over a ballache? Or is it going to be the same as this job described in this thread?

cheers
