Radio replacement with factory amplifier.
Hi,
I have a 2007-2008 (57 plate) S60 2.0T Sport and plan to replace the radio, but I believe it has the built-in amplifier (better sound system optional extra). What is the procedure to wire a new radio in for this? - Ripmax |

Sorry, forgot to mention this! A Pioneer FH-X730BT.
Might I add too I know how to wire a radio normally, have done it a few times in a past, just have never encountered a factory amp! It's got the parking sensors too, will these stop working if I replace the radio? Also, would it be possible to have the old steering wheel controls work with it? Just done this on mine. There’s a lead which plugs into the pre-outs on the back of the new head unit and then connects to the plug which runs to the amp. There’s a blue wire out of that plug which you connect to the loose blue lead coming out of the new head unit loom labelled remote switch or similar - this sends a signal to the amp to turn itself on. Can’t recall the ref no. for the lead, but google Connects 2 and you’ll find it on there.

You don't have to use the factory amp. Behind the old radio, usually tucked away there is a speaker connector. The speaker leads from the factory amp feed back to behind the dash and connect with the standard factory speaker wiring. You could try driving the speakers directly from your new radio. The factory amp is OK but its quite an old design, many new radio have built in amps which are just as powerful and can sound better.
