Default Strange Steering Issue!!

Afternoon all

Hope everyone is well?

Looking for some more advice please. My V40 has developed a very strange habit, when driving around an island or turning hard to the right, the steering wheel tries to pull back to the left!! Its only intermittent, and the car doesn't pull to the right when driving in a straight line. It almost feels like the car losses its power assistance and tries to straighten up for no reason.. Its really hard to explain sorry.... The cars alignment / tracking is good as I've had it checked and there's no leaks of the PSF.

The car had red PSF fluid in the system when i bought it and this was vacuumed out and replaced with later green CHF11S to try and help but its had no impact. I've also replaced the track rod ends in the past 12 months.

Has anybody else experienced this or have any thoughts?

Many thanks
James

You don’t have any bits of wheel well cover hanging too close to the wheel do you?

No, I have been under the car and had a look. I can see nothing out of the ordinary 😢

Jack up each front wheel and shake them front to back. Maybe your inner or outer tie rods are getting tied.

Defective power steering rack , most likely the spool valve or valve body issue allowing fluid pressure to exert effort on both side of rack .

In effect the equal presure on both side " straightens " the steering & would also account for the loss of assistance you notice .

I had one that was so bad , that on full lock the steering would return to center when parked with engine running , it was un-nerving to watch in the early 80's !
