I did once get a set of pads which came with shims, but discarded them because the pistons wouldn't quite push in far enough to stop the brakes rubbing slightly.
I suppose an alternative would have been to rub down the pads slightly on emery paper to reduce the thickness.

Nick,

Yes the pushrod is the pin which protrudes out of the front of the servo.
It's surprisingly easy to adjust, the master cylinder can be removed and gently eased out of the way leaving the lines attached. Then I used a needle nosed vice grips to hold the knurled end of the rod and (I think) a 1/4" socket to loosen the adjusting nut on the end. For me it was just trial and error. I think I adjusted it 5 times until I was happy that there was clearance between the rod and master cylinder, but still had a good solid pedal.
I wish I knew about this when I had a similar problem on my old 144, but ended up buying a servo which I still haven't fitted!
