Hi Everyone,

Just signed up to the community,
Bought a '99 V40 GDI a couple of weeks ago , 125k on the clock, no service history, but cheap on Ebay.
Then I find out that the GDI is maybe not the most reliable Volvo outthere !
The car is in nice condition for its age, drives nice and smooth etc...
Sailed through the MOT last week after buying 4 new tyres, done oil & filter change myself on Saturday, found the sump plug has been cross threaded in the past.
Planning to get the timing belt changed soon for peace of mind.
The revs seem to flutuate at tickover occasionally but not all the time, and the radio "buzzes"(only radio 2 ) (change to radio 1 and it stops ,but I cant stand the music) with the accelorater as if a suppressor is breaking down, is this a lead, cap or plug?
Cheers for now .......Nige

look up all GDi posts but take the car for a good thrash. tickover is dodgy if it's coked up.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you are interested in service history, any Volvo dealership can print out the service record from every dealership in the country, they can even print off the entire options and spec list of your model.

If the timing belt was done at Volvo, it will save you a bit of money - and also it will show the mileage on the car when the work was carried out so you can check when the belt change is due again.

All you need is the chassis number (windscreen, under bonnet or on V5) - some will even look up the info with just the numberplate.

Kerry

Cam belts on the Gdi are changed every 60000 miles and its an expensive and nasty job, according to the mechanics as the engine has to be lowered, Dealer prices 4 years ago £600, Sorry not what you wanted to hear at this time of the year.
