Well found a specialist and went and saw them. However completely put off by the attitude of the guy who I spoke to.

Explained the problem and what I wanted and his answers was 'the fuel pumps at fault, its breaking down and causing the solenoid to stay open'. Not sure if they did not want to do the work as they knew it was a short job or could not be bothered.

Am going to contact FRF and try and order a new solenoid and the lower steady bracket which I need to replace as well.

on my 740 petrol-- there is an anti-dieseling device-

if one of the tiny hoses come off it diesels for a while before cutting out after the contact has switched off

Have found a solenoid for under a tenner delivered but will wait for a reply from FRF first. Here it is

New part fitted Saturday morning. 10 minute job and the engine runs as sweet as before.

Lower engine link also fitted whilst having the access to the ramp. 20 minute job and now no more thumping when the engine stops, only small problem was the getting the 2 bolts past the gear linkage to remove the old link.

Car now running sweetly again on the engine department.

Sometimes get this the other way as well. Car won't start because stop solenoid not working and staying shut.

Well, cheap does not work it seems (internet ebay part).

The replacement £5 solenoid has packed up after 5 days of use and leaks diesel 'through' the termination at the top. Found this out when checking the engine bay this morning at my brothers place of employment. Pool of diesel on the floor under the car in about 20 seconds.

Went to a recommended specialist down the road from his works and spent £30 on another Delphi one and now all is good and no leaks.
