Default performance chip on Ebay do they work?

Hi everyone I just got a 2007, v70 T5 really like it but I was just curios about moderate performance upgrades and I saw some options on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232682169...EAAOSwW51dZknW
I just wondered are they legit? and further more are they safe when a car runs on LPG? What sort of easy upgrades do you all recommend with a budget of about £1k?

Go and get a proper remap, if you want you engine to last stay away from these "performance" chips.

I was quoted about 400 for a rolling road and remap.. assuming you get the same quote that leaves you 600 for a set of tyres which you'll no doubt be shredding at every set of lights

that sound expensive for a tuneing box with no back up or proof . they wont care if you wreck your engine get a good re map from some one like shem green at shemtec automotive lots of satisfied customers will back this up.

Default Hopefully helpful bump

Sorry for bumping an older post but for the sake of anyone looking into these Race Chips - I've got one on my 2007 XC70 D5 (the GTS Black Version with bluetooth module to allow changes from my phone-when parked up and safe of course).

RaceChips are made by a german company and have been tested extensively by various car enthusiasts and youtube channels (CarThrottle as an example). They do actually provide a warranty if your engine blows up as a result of using their chip (if engine is under certain amount of miles/years). The benefit of the chip is that you can also return it to 'stock' immediately (which you cannot with a remap). I've had remaps and chips on every diesel (and some petrols) I've owned so there are of course pros and cons to each. This chip is coded to your vehicle so it's not just a generic map type thing. If there are any issues like knocking/hesitation, you can receive updates over the air to your phone which uploads to the chip. Never had to use it but by all accounts the support is excellent.

Do I like mine? Absolutely. Was it easy to install? Without a doubt. Am I an idiot for using it on a a vehicle with 205k on the clock - most likely, but in fairness I have it set to 'eco' mode 90% of the time. Obviously Sport and Race mode will put additional stress on clutch/gearbox/driveshaft etc so as with any mods, use at your own risk. Also at the risk of sounding like the fun police, as with any mods, you should really inform your insurer to make sure you're covered in the event of an accident/theft etc.

Hope the above helps!

yes but its still the price of a remap .plus its pointless if you drive round in eco mode.

Also a d5 is somewhat easier to come by and replace if it goes wrong compared to a t5
