S80 TDi info
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a S80 TDi SE auto 1999 and would be grateful for any info anyone can give. 1st off, what is the fuel economy like. Can I expect to get anywhere near the 43mpg quoted in What Car. Also for towing can anyone tell me that exact kerbweight and noseweight for this particular model. I tow with a Vauxhall Omega 2.5 TD auto at the moment but I only get 22mpg towing and 28mpg solo. Is it a decent family car and does it suffer with tail end sag. I've found a couple of examples localy in the press and will be looking at them next weekend. Thanks in advance. Ian |

I am currently getting 38mph on a 8000 mile average although I used to get about 43mpg average before I swapped from 15" alloys with Conti Ecos to the current 16" alloys with some firestone rubbish. As I would expect the S80 to be heavier, I would expect to see lower mpg but not that much plus it depends on your driving. I tend to do quite a bit of high speed motorway driving with a 10 mile thrash at the end of the journey. If I do take it easy on the motorway, 45mpg+ is easy. In any event, it will still be a lot more economical than the petrol version. |

I have the auto version and with a mixture of town and motorway driving get 40-41mpg. Driving 60 mph on the motorway mpg can go up to 45/47 mpg
17" wheels with P6000 tyres. |

Ditto for me on consumption. I cannot complain about the economy for a big car with an automatic box. As it is a pre-2002 car there should be no problem with hesistation when accelerating from a low speed, i.e from a give way.
