Default Additional key

When I thought I had an immobilizer problem I took the key, immobilizer unit and antenna ring from a scrapyard 940. I taped the key to the antenna ring connected it to the scrapyard immo unit. I connected the scrapyard immo unit to the original immo unit connector and put the whole bunch somewhere under the dashboard and. The immo system now used the scrapyard key RFID all the time.

Riversteeg why don't you just swap the chip and RFID module over? The key case easily unclips, the different coloured plastic slides up, but you may need to slide a charp blade in to lift it a little.

Well it's late but I thought I would update you as I have sorted out the problem.

I didn't contact FRF as even if they could supply a key by the vin number there was no guarantee that the key would fit as always a possibly the ignition/locks could of been changed.

I Emailed a few locksmiths in the Birmingham area. One replied can't do it as Volvo only. One didn't reply. Other, CT Locksmiths at Stechford said bring the key to us and we'll be able to see if they could do it.
http://www.ctlocksmiths.co.uk/

Arrived around Midday and they read the chip from my key, copied the chip to a new chip. Needed to get a blank key and phoned at 4pm to say they now have blank key and they could cut the new key.
Arrived, cut the key, fitted chip, they tested in car and all working

I got my grandparents to take my original set into the house, The key works great in all locks and the new set is now safely at my Grandparents as the spare set.
Why I tested myself was to make sure it wasn't reading the original chip.

Very happy with the service and price.

Cost a reasonable £40

James

Looking in hinsight that might have been easier. Although, as it often is, it was kind of a developing process when trying to find the solution of an intermittent immobilizer problem. I started with the antenna ring and it was finally solved when I put an upgraded chip in the -984 ECU (BTI).
Another problem was that I could only get hold of a single key from the scrap yard, so that would have left me with the same problem as the TS: just a single working key.

For the TS a spare key is probably the best solution and £40 is not bad at all!
