I presume it will be a CR2430 battery.

Any reputable supplier should have them in. I'd advise a branded battery (duracell etc) rather than a pound shop variety. Your local supermarket may have them in, but you'd have to check.

Don't make mistake I did. Had low battery message, changed battery.
Couple of weeks later had message again. Though battery I had just got was a dud so got another, when opening fob, noticed it takes 2 battery's.
Mine has keyless ignition so don't know if all are like that

Thanks PM77 and jodiexii

my previous 4 Volvos have had a separate key plus fob for door locks and alarm.
always unscrewed the retaining screw and replaced the 4 batteries myself.
.................................................. ...........
in my 08 v70 d5 SE geartronic.

the fob unit itself acts as the key plus door locks, alarm, tailgate opener, all windows opener courtessy lights and emergency flashers.

In order to retain these functions
does it need to go to a garage for battery replacement
or is it an easy job to open the fob and replace battery (s) ?

There is an excellent "Search" function on this website....... yes you can open the key fob easily.

Here are a couple of results for the search I did on "Key Fob Battery"

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...ey+fob+battery

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...ey+fob+battery

If you can't get the key fob open yourself then follow the advice from "colnet" on the 18th Feb 2018 - it's in the second search linked above.

Cars with keyless entry have remotes with two batteries. The standard fob has only one battery.
Just replace the battery, and that's it. No other actions necessary.
Just make sure you don't lose the little spring that acts as anti-rattle for the mechanical backup key.

took fob to local Timpson shoe repairers as recommended by a fellow v70 owner.
very helpful man changed battery whilst I watched (1 large battery..as informed by.apersson850)
gave me a written lifetime guarrantee.. free replacement battery and installation if it fails at any time

thought that was a good deal and good service.

If the battery fails? But surely it will fail at some point as it isn't rechargeable? Although I suppose you would have to keep your car for quite a few years to take advantage of the guarantee.

We don't have Timpson over here. Which is a pity to be honest. They seem very good.
