Default V50 08 LCD Screen

Afternoon,

Looking for a bit of advice on the LCD screen long story short mine got damaged by someone working on the car (this side of things have been dealt with and they have paid for damages).
Can a second hand unit be used to replace this without coding? i think i read that as long as the part numbers are the same, is this correct?
Main reason im asking is my local volvo are quoting £1250 to replace, fit and recode a new one. Where as second hand units can be had for about £40.

why not dismantle the unit and swap the broken LCD part with the £40 unit leaving your correctly programmed circuit board ?

Now i never thought of that one..... Good idea. Its a cluster of dead pixels i have on the screen. Do you know if it is possible to open up the unit and swap those parts over? Just want to check as sometimes i've found parts like this to be sealed.

Exactly what I did. There are threads on the forum that cover it. Try to get one with the same part number then dismantle them both and swap the LCD over. It's quite straightforward.

Mine broke exactly the same way. Clumsy Volvo technician pushed it back into the dash using the display not the surround :-(

Thanks! I'll need to go pull the one out the car to get the codes etc. As for mine I think they used a pry tool on The trim and pressed against the screen.

I have a spare one, i tried it in my 05 V50 and it worked but didn't display some features, maybe it needed some software installed to get everything my original one was showing?
