You're welcome Constantinos, sadly i can't see the solenoid valve as you've been Photobucketed - Photobucket will no longer show your photos to a 3rd party, in this case me and anyone else looking at your post on the forum.

If it's any help, when it happened to me i went to postimages.org
and i believe there is an option to upload photos to the forum as well.

Maybe you could try again with the photo using one of those options or perhaps you already know of other options?

This is so annoying!

Let's try attaching the photo to see if this works...

That worked! Have you got air-con on the car?

D'oh!!! Ignore that post above! ^^^^^

Was flitting between threads and totally forgot you were transferring A/C from one the the other!

The thing is, if only one hose was connected to the carb and the other just dangling in mid-air, it could go anywhere. I think you might have to have a hunt round the engine bay and try and find a "lost" looking hose that would connect with it.

Sorry i can't be more help on that one but i think you'll have to have a look yourself to try and find some more clues.

Hi,

I'm in the middle of retro-fitting air-con to my 740 diesel. I've swapped the entire heater box and got everything fitted bar a couple of A/C hoses (which will need to be fabricated/altered) on mine now.

Your mystery box looks similar to, and has the same number of vacuum hoses as one on my diesel - but my diesel has two solenoid valves in total.

The one that looks identical to yours has the following connections:

Electrical connector - top right of it in your pic.
Vacuum hose - bottom right of it in your pic - connected to inlet manifold and second solenoid valve

vac hose - opposite electrical connector, top left in your pic - connected to injection pump.
Vac hose - opposite and below electrical connector, bottom left in your pic - connected to interior lamp (for supplying air to flow over temp sensor on ECC system).

I have no idea how similar the 740 and 240 systems are - I'm guessing 240s only had the manual A/C rather than the automatic climate control?
Therefore the above info may be no use to you at all...

I wish you good luck in doing this - I've found there have been some challenges in mine

So far I have removed everything related to the A/C & heating from the donor car. The donor car has been on SORN for 10+years so I cannot be sure if anything works.

Next step in my project is to take everything (A/C & heating related) apart and assess the situation. Once I clean up everything I will take them to my Air-condition man to check everything and give me a quotation of the cost to get it going once again. And if the price is right I will start taking apart my Limo.

Regarding the solenoid, I will have to take it to a Volvo specialist to tell me where the pipes should go.

Just an update:

I have found out where the soleniod valve connects to. It is shown in the parts book.

One end connects to the vacuum hose on the inlet manifold and the other end goes to the injection unit.

Next task is to find the right connecting nipples, tubes, etc.

Good detective work! Blowing that diagram up further suggests it's something to do with the charcoal canisters to prevent petrol fumes entering the atmosphere and if not that, either the PCV system or it's for improved drivability when cold. There's also the possibility that it is to increase the airflow throw the K-Jetronic system when the air-con is in use.

Without a key to that diagram i'm guessing at the functions of some of those bits but those are possibilities - it seems to link in to the metering side of the throttle butterfly in the K-Jet and go via the idle speed adjuster/valve.
