Hi
Spent 1/2 hour doing mine at a local trading estate.
I had a tarnished reflector, I fitted a replacement from another similar V50 headlight with a cracked glass.
Just used white masking tape to mark the heights.
MOT said they were good

My MOT man told me a few years ago that the MOT governing body expect to see a mixture of failures/passes/advisories at any one MOT premises.

Headlamp alignment is a nice easy record-and-fix to satisfy (allegedly).

Guess what happened to my former adjusters a few years back

I knew it was them as they were the only ones to touch it, every year it was showing a fail for alignments with an immediate retest showing a pass. No charge for the adjustment though. Since taking it elsewhere, it's not been mentioned since.
garage needs the bill then for new light unit if they broke it

works Wonders for stopping them Messing with things they shouldnt be messing with

Well what a week!

Replacement ebay headlamps fitted, adjuster mechanisms looked good, went for the MOT, I knew the nearside beam was too low as it was obvious but offside looked about right.....

MOT man snapped the adjuster and refused the re-test

Back at home I had to faff about with marker tapes on the garage door, tiny washers (don't ask) and a home-made adjuster bodge.....headlamp on and off the car about 12 times got the nearside beam pattern looking 'about right'..........meanwhile the MOT had expired properly.....went back for a pre-arranged 2nd retest and it passed! I got the beam spot on lol.

Only now have a slight issue with moisture inside the headlamps where I've had them open so much, oh well IO can sort that.

Well, great it passed, congrats, but oh boy I read about those MOT experiences and just scratching my head, wow. In here the tester can not interfere with car AT ALL so you can fail for forgetting to pull the seatbelt from under the rear seat or for forgetting to remove hubcaps if wheelnuts are not visible. I would freak out if any tester destroyed my adjusters as those would also snap like twigs.
mental!
atleast ur sorted

send him the bill for the headlight he broke

unless you gave explicit permission for him to adjust the light the garage is liable

Well the MOT man is a long-term friend (not that he shows any favours).

To be honest I think he thought he could pick me out for the 'record' but then it all turned sour when the adjusters broke - like I said before the headlamp aim is a nice little box-ticker usually.

To be fair the ebay replacements (for some reason) are in better condition than my originals - I must have got lucky and they came from low-milers or 'garaged' cars.
