150,000 miles original parts
hello all !.over the weekend i changed the track control arms on my 850.after removing the roadwheels there was a lot of grease knocking around under the wheel arch.it was a split cv boot.i obtained one of them there universal repair kits comprising of a boot with a split, glue,cv grease and some crap metal band thingy's.it was a tedious job but it glued together easy, the grease was added and the metal bands put in place.i then got around to changing the track control arms.it was relatively easy and i found the old ones were original !.
next day i looked underneath and to my horror found the new boot had slid off the joint due to the crap metal bands ! back to my father in laws garage. 20 mins later and a couple of cable ties the boot was secure.the problem was the metal bands just would not tighten up enough.while i was at it i took off the intake manifold and the numerous vacuum hoses and replaced the oil trap and associated pipework.when i removed the injector rail one of the injectors was missing the o ring that fits on the end ! this may explain the ticking noise i have been hearing ? on reassembly i have fitted an o ring not quite as thick as the original but it appears to have quietened the ticking down a wee bit and the car seems a little more responsive.also, the new track control arms appear to have eliminated a horrible judder experienced at 65/70mph and again at 90mph. all in all a pleasant weekend ! |

I bet it feels like new now.. If your split gators split again you should try the stretchy gator boots from Bailacast Duraboots. They slip over the CV joint with no need to disassemble the CV. I bought mine but haven't got round to fit them yet.

i've never seen those before.surely if they are that stretchy they should last a long time resistant to tearing etc.the split and glue boot i fitted was made by bailcast.
just need two front tyres and a years car tax (stand and deliver !) and thats it for this month ! |

had cambelt done when i got the car at 145000 miles.only cost me 50 quid labour.
i have ordered a new pinch bolt and injectos o rings.cos the drivers side pinch bolt thread was a wee bit ragged and one of the o rings was missing. |
