Default Worn inside edges on rear tyres

I’ll try to keep it short, but I need your collective help! I bought a V70 D3 2014 (63 plate) 103k miles, there was some noise for the rear tyres, took it to a Nottingham Volvo specialist. The rear tyres were worn unevenly on the inside edge. Replaced both. Been checking pressures weekly, replaced my rear discs and pad, swapped rear for fronts. Just had it’s annual service, and the rear tyres are worn on the inside edge again!!! Spoke to the suppling dealer, he says (via solicitors letter) that is ‘estate cars’ ans Volvos are known for it.... I’m now on 113k miles mainly motorway miles...

Seems like BS, can someone help me with what might be wrong or do I need to get over it and swap my tyres every month? Thanks 🙏

Ps apart from this I’m loving my first Volvo!!!!

what tyre pressures are you using? anything less than 32 psi and this can happen... I have seen it many times ... set your fronts to 38 and rear to 36 It is all benefits if you are happy with the ride . It helps fuel consumption , tyre life ( can double the life compared to neglected tyres ) wet grip is better , and your risk of wheel and tyre damage due to pot holes is greatly reduced ...
Having said that always wise at that mileage to check the suspension bushes and FOUR wheel alignment .

Running 36 across front and back... he’s quoted some technical doc where it states no rear adjustment is possible?

Clan is correct.

I have a 2011 D3 V70 with 106k on the clock which I bought new. I've never had any uneven wear on the rears, just a bit on the front from tracking going out. Rears will do a good 30k to 40k miles but if you're getting uneven wear you're replacing them at half of that.

4 wheel alignment I've had done by my Volvo dealer in the past on my V70 and I've seen the printouts showing all the adjustments of camber, toe etc.

In summary, you're right in calling BS.

If you're in Nottingham I'd recommend Marshall Volvo at Grantham. Might not be your local but only half an hour away or so. I think my 4 wheel alignment was about £60. They're pretty good at giving you a date and time if you want to wait while they do the work, or a free courtesy car.

If you do want to contact them let me know and I'll DM you a contact name of service manager and my actual name as a reference to use when you call them.

P.S. The noise from the rear tyres is probably sawtooth wear. Do a Google search on it. You can check for it yourself by feeling the tyre. A few estates are prone to that, for example VW Passat 2005. Your dealer may have been referring to that "common estate issue"

thank you... i want to make sure I’ll get my money back (and I have a feeling it’ll be a court job) before I get anything done (as it’ll need 2 new tyres too) I may well take you up on your offer!

Check all suspension bushes with a BIG pry bar , when MOT testing I often find the symptoms you describe . Once the car has been examined further ( BIG bar - something I am prohibited from doing ) by a garage , movement is found .

One customer with a P2 V70 that spent a lot of time on motorway heavily loaded replaced all the rear bushes with polyurathane versions . The garage doing the work , found several of the bushes had become oval & not by that much . The result was alteration of geometry angles , enought to wreck tyres

Mondeo estates & many BMW's do exactly the same , just for the fun of it

Check very carefully , if neccessary remove links one at a time , then 4 wheel alignment once the problem is found , tracking does not check ALL geometry angles
