Default Any good .......?

Im seriously thinking in the next few weeks about getting a late model 960 estate the type with a nice nose , but the CD model with a 3.0 engine . Has anyone here got one ,and if so what sort of economy , well wrong term...........um what sort of mpg does one hope to get from it . Are there any problems to look out for , im guessing as they have a lot of electrical gizmos check they are working any thing else ?

I owned a 940 for a while and it seemed very similar to a 740. My guess is that a 960 is not dissimiar to a 760 just more refined and updated.

The last of the RWD Volvos so must be worth considering I would have thought.

(I see your not yearning for another 240 yet Mike!)

Ian thanks for the reply my friend , the 240 was to me a boring car . I love the shape of the 240 but to me seems just boring to drive . Maybe if a mint 240 came allong I could be tempted but finding one is a different matter .

Must be honest though , the 240 we did have was a saloon , there is no way we could have a saloon again due to our springer spaniels its so much easier with them in an estate , bloody nightmare in a saloon ! !

It seems that a late 960 with the different front end can be bought for around the two thousand pound mark , which I think is good considering what you get . Its just the reliability of the 3.0 engine im trying to sus out before hand .

My brother-in-law ran a late 960 for a while, he still goes misty-eyed over it now! I don't have any particular knowledge of the range but he had his car for two years and did over 50k in it (taking it to well over 120k) and he never had to do anything other than routine maintenance.

Cheers,
John

Like I said Ian LOL , if the right 240 estate came allong I would certainly not rule it out ! !

Like you mention maybe I had the wrong one ?

To be honest im also tempted by a classic saab 900 turbo ! But then again its boot space for the woofer !

Is it me or are the moderators watching my posts , im starting to feel watched , LOL .

Hi,

The late 960 could also be a later V90. Same beast but the V90 has the full colour coded bodykit.

If you get the 3.0 then fuel "economy" ( ) is around 18 to 28 mpg depending on where/type of driving and the weight of your shoes!

These cars NEED regular good maintenance to keep the engine in good running order.
So be particulay about your oils, coolant and keep a regular check on things..
Not as "troublesome" as the 800 series electronically though..

Des. . .
