Default supercharging...easy or not?

Heya folks,

I have been having wild thoughts about supercharging my car, I wondered if it was an easy thing to do or if its hardly worth it..this is for a normally aspirated engine

You don't say what car you've got, supercharging is a quick way of getting extra horses but it may not be that cheap( unless your sourcing seconhand parts), power gains can be quite decent but unless you know what your doing there will be plenty of fabrication work to do.

There have been plenty of threads where N/A engine owners have asked about sicking on a turbo and the common response is the engine isnt designed for it and will just blow.
Is super charging a safer way of forced induction and why?

aye seen those, even asked myself and was just told easier to get a t4 anyways hehe

similar question to tt82, is supercharging safer and better to do than turbo-ing a n/a engine...i was told that supercharging was the alternative to turboing and easier to do....

I would of thought the opposite was true, a turbo system from a T4 or 2.0T would be pretty much a straigt bolt on job, however supercharging requires drive from the crank to power it so some modification is required.

Fabricating the mounts and sorting out the drive off the crank is relatively easy. It's the fueling requirements, compression ratio, and ignition side you need to worry about.

I thought about supercharging my V40, then thought about it alot more & to do it properly was more expensive than buying a T4.
In the end I doubt you would reach the power of a standard 2.0t for the amount of boost you could run on an N/A engine with the supercharger losses as well.
I suspect your engine has done more than 80k so would not even bother tryng to tune it.
