Default V70 Gearbox issue?

Hullo,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I couldn't decide if this was a V70 specific issue or a Diesel issue, and there's no gearbox specific forum! Sorry!

For a while now my 51 plated V70 D5 has been a bit clunky in gear changes. When sat with foot on brake at lights there can be quite a lurch as it drops gears.

However the main specific issue I have is pretty repeatable. When accelerating moderately from a standing start, going from 1st to 2nd gear causes it to go neutral briefly, sending the revs high, then it clonks into gear and away we go. It doesn't do this with other gears.

This is going to be expensive isn't it?

If the car also judders when setting off, the gearbox has had it. As luck would have it these can be found on the breakers yard websites, I bought one a few years ago for £500 and that was delivered, just before the new one is installed get the garage to do a service on the 'new' one and it should last, good luck.

Sorry, yes, automatic. Checked gearbox and engine oil. Both seem fine.

It's actually quite smooth when setting off.

I just took it for a pootle about town. It doesn't seem to drop out of gear when old, only once it's been running for a little while. I can't get it to do it, or can't observe it, when I'm pushing hard (e.g. when pulling away from lights on a dual carriageway at speed) but I can get it to do it when pootling around town.

If it's new/recon gearbox time that'll have to wait I guess. No funds at the moment.

I did a quick search in the v70 section on "v70 gearbox" and there are quite a few interesting threads.

The level for the gearbox oil comes up quite a lot, along with what type of fluid to use.

Worth a trawl thru
