If you check out the gantries as you pass under them you can clearly see that they all have brackets for the cameras but most are empty.

Its a Facebook / Twitter post that's been doing the rounds since about 2016. It makes an appearance every few months, and is total rubbish.

All the HADECS cameras are 'side firing' and are mounted on shelves supported by the gantries on the hardshoulder side.... so you wont see them as you pass under.

I travel the M1 frequently & can confirm they are always live (although not at 72mph) I normally have ACC set to 75mph if the signs aren't illuminated & frequently have seen others (mainly BMW's & Audi's) get flashed as they tank past me so I'm guessing set at 80mph +.

Have been on the M1 at all times of the evening & early morning & seen it happen.

TBH I do try to avoid the M1 as much as possible but working frequently in Brum it's a necessary evil as the A1 is too far east.

Yes I am fully aware the limit is 70mph but at Silly o'clock at night or the early hours of the morning the extra 5mph isn't harming anybody where there are no other restrictions for safety.

Prepares to get flamed.

Yep & Keeping the coffers topped up

Gone are the days when a proper police patrol would have a word in your shell & nothing else or just flash the lights to remind you.

I do remember driving back to base at Ripon in the early 1980's, at silly o'clock, in the middle lane on an empty motorway. Only to be given a scare when a police car with no lights on suddenly appeared on my right in the fast lane. I gave them more than a word and they sped off.

Or just save a lot of agro and stick to the limits.

My company vehicle has a tracker which also monitors speed, g force, both side and fore and aft, as well as position. Monthly report on driver incidences, whatever that may be, and speeding events. Too many events and disaplinary action is taken.

Cameras are a minor problem when the spy is in the cab with you.
