Volvo SatNav
- Destination not entirely accurate (Building numbers etc) - particularly bad if it's a One-way street and you have to go round 3-4 blocks to get to the correct address! - Estimated time (even with Traffic data) is wildly out - Voice control is very poor - 1 in 10 destinations are the correct address - Displays on Dash and/or Sensus which is good. Android Auto - Voice recognition via Google/Google Maps for addresses much better - especially road names - No Dash display - Sensus only - Mapping accuracy much better - Need to connect phone, which can be annoying for short journeys. - Can't enter when moving - annoying if there's a passenger using it! Overall - Can't use both together - (unless phone is unconnected and in a cradle) no reason why not, bar processing power of the Sensus. - Rest of Sensus display is redundant with using Android Auto

I like the idea of google / Apple maps, but whenever I use either of them in the car it takes about 5 minutes before I get fed up with them.
Why? Well the satellite view is nice but the annoyances are; 1) fact that only a tiny amount of the whole Sensus centre screen is used 2) no head up sat nav display or sat nav between the speedo dials (well it will continue to show the Sensus nav there but what’s the point if you are using google maps for navigation...) 3) the rest of the blooming Sensus centre screen still shows the buttons for nav and phone (with controlled by CarPlay or somesuch message next to the button). 4) the car modem is disconnected so any passenger iPads / phones etc suddenly lose their connection to the car hotspot, which is annoying as the car has a 20gb allowance and their iPads have none and their iPhones only 2gb. 5) no access to music stored on the other usb stick. I mean, wtf is the reason for that ! So, save yourself £300 and go out for a nice dinner somewhere.

I'm sure I had Waze on the centre display the other day with the car sat nav in either the dash, and/or HUD. I must have another play. |

The Volvo Maps show on the dash, but not the Navigation.

Destination not entirely accurate (Building numbers etc)
I use VOC (which uses Google map) to find the destination and then "send" to Sensus Nav. So far works 100% times, as someone commented - you can do this while having lunch in a Cafe, then get in the car and quickly set off. Quote:

The RTTI is a serious disappointment. Before I got the Volvo I used TomTom Go on my phone (mounted on a cradle on the dash) as the traffic info on my Navara was completely useless. TomTom traffic info is vast superior to Volvo's RTTI.
Some of the routing on the Volvo is bizarre. For no apparent reason it gave me a route that meant not joining a dual carriageway at a roundabout and then following the dual carriageway for 10 miles, but instead taking another exit, following a link road to another roundabout, exiting that to a single carriageway A road and then joining the dual carriageway at the next junction! It's not even if that round was shorter as the proposed route was 2 sides of a triangle when compared to the direct route. |

Google Maps via Android Auto any day. Just wished Vilvo would allow fulk use of the screen rathen than leave redundant buttons vas alluded above
I have a magnetic type cable that allows easy, no look connection in car.

And don't forget:
Built-in systems have
Mobile phones have their place Built-in car nav systems also have their place What is good for you in your country may not be the best solution for me in my country. Where I live, I am often in places with no mobile signal, and with GPS signal interruptions. And some tunnels can take 30 minutes to drive through. And some of these tunnels have intersections underground. So for me, a mobile device navigation will never be able to replace a built-in system and provide such reliability. Of course, your country, and your area of usage will be different. Horses for courses and all that.
