CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKETS XC60, and...
I have just taken delivery of my new, and 3rd XC60, Its quite a different car from the previous two.
I have a couple of questions.... How do the cigarette lighter sockets operate ? In my previous models the two interior lighter sockets operated when the ignition was on, the boot/luggage compartment socket operated all the time. This does not appear to be the case with the latest model. The boot/ luggage socket also switches off after a short time. Anyone got any knowledge in this regards. My second observation concerns the rear passenger door seals. I have found that on both rear doors small amounts of dirt and debris appear to be getting in underneath the seals and laying in situ. The dirt is easily wiped away, but I just thought this was not as to be expected...... Thanks |

I get the dirt on the rear doors, quite a collection this time of year, I think it is the design to prevent the seal getting dirty so when people get in and out you do not rub your clothes on it etc.
Same as I get dirt sit in the Alloys Rims, surprised it does not effect the balance etc.

On the new spa model cars the 12 volt sockets stay live for several minutes after turning off the ignition before powering down, the cargo area socket is the same, it no longer stays live all the time.

That is a great shame as with my previous 2 XC60's I would use the rear 12v socket to trickle charge the car's battery when needed.

I'm intrigued, how did that work then?

With the 12v socket in the boot always live, one could leave a cooler box plugged in for several hours, example, short ferry crossings, etc.
I still have a rectangular solar panel, which I used to place on the dash and plug into the rear socket and this would keep the battery charged while being away from for several weeks at a time. The longest time was 5 weeks on a trip to NZ and the XC90 was parked at Glasgow Airport. On returning, the engine started first time. tem.

Simon's post just appealed to my sense of humour. I'd guess it would have done so anyway. |
