My Feb 2010 Active has the same issue, has does a workmates 60 reg Active. I have got a FVSH (same dealer) and only covered 44,000.

My service is due in Jan, obviously well out of warranty, but given the evidence the bolster is not fit for purpose in my view. What are the chances of getting something done under a good will gesture do you think?

I am not overly confident but it does seem there is a problem on this particular model.

Mike.

I have a 2010 XC60. I take it this thread is all about the side panel in the photo I've attached. Although this is not my actual seat in the pic I have a split here. How much did Volvo save by putting PVC here rather than leather? AT least they could have used a Polyurethane upholstery fabric instead, the composite nature of PU would have given a little more resistance. This is the most stressed part of all the upholstery in the car which does beg the question, "why?" Did they intend for it to become damaged, I can't see that it would be overlooked. How many people out there wouldn't have paid the extra £5 on the cost of the car to have this bit in leather. My 2004 XC90 had leather on this part of the seat and had no problem whatsoever despite the car being higher from the ground and the seat taking more wear at this point.

Has anyone been to a local auto upholsterer to get the panel replace? If so what was the cost. I need to spec out my option pending the fabric net backing splitting now the PVC has split.

We've just bought a '59 v70 with the seam rip in exactly the same place (driver seat outside) about 3" where the cloth insert meets the 'soft leather trim.
The only concerns I have are stopping further seam tear away and the cosmetic look of the white under foam showing through.
I'm not going to go to the expense of having it professionally repaired - the car's only worth £4500 retail.
I'm considering the first step marker penning in the exposed slice of white foam before I'm brave enough to try using a non heat adhesive then pressure til it takes - either adhesive masking and using a craft fabric spray adhesive or using something like araldite applied with a cocktail stick.

What's general opinion on which DIY repair sounds more promising?
