Default Vulcan XM655 Meet - Wellesbourne

Another fantastic meet and photo opportunity I thought worth sharing from the VolvoTuning 2016 calendar:

Vulcan XM655 Meet - Wellesbourne - 27-2-16

This is a unique opportunity for VT team members to get up and close and personal with the Vulcan that Guy Martin recently fast taxied in the channel 4 documentary 'The Last flight of the Vulcan'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ9R...ature=youtu.be

We will meet at the Wellesbourne Airport touch down cafe at 10:30 on Saturday 27th Feb 2016

The address is;

Touchdown Cafe
Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield
Loxley Lane
Wellesbourne
Warwickshire
CV35 9EU

There were a limited amount of Cockpit tour slots which have all been allocated, however this will still be an awesome opportunity to get your car photographed alongside and underneath the flying legend that is the Vulcan.

With over 40 cars on the attendance list so far - this is going to be an awesome meet and one not to be missed. Members of VT are already briefed and ready for that '4 minute warning'

Hopefully we'll see you there

Me too...a few more details about XM655 can be found on the 655 Maintenance & Preservation Society website:

http://www.xm655.com/index.php

The main attraction for the meet is the Vulcan but I also believe there is the Wellesbourne Wartime Museum on site which would well be worth a visit. Not to mention the Cafe lol

I don't know if you are aware of this. It was from an aviation site I belong to and is dated Jan 7th:-

Taken from the Stratford Herald

PLANS to build hundreds of homes on Wellesbourne Airfield appear to be set to take off with businesses being served this week with what are effectively eviction notices.
A letter has been sent out by solicitors acting on behalf of the Littler family, which owns the former RAF airfield, confirming the date for which they plan to cease all flying activities. And it’s sooner than you might have thought.

http://www.stratford-herald.com/4638...herald-33.html

I am not affiliated with this airfield in any way - I live over 100 miles away but have visited here.

Not good news at all.....that is such a shame. Wonder if XM655 will be saved and transported (if even possible) to another site. I suppose it all comes down to funds...funds that probably aren't there

Makes our visit even more poignant...almost a final final goodbye.

Wellesbourne Airfield have posted on their website the following:

You may have read scare stories in the local press regarding the closure of Wellesbourne Airfield and eviction of the tenants. We can re-assure you that 655MaPS have not received an eviction notice, nor do we expect one.
No planning application has been submitted for development of the site, and the local council have made it clear that they wish to encourage further development as an active airfield. Whilst we cannot rule out the possibility the airfield may eventually close, we expect to be able to continue with our present activities for many years to come.

A remarkable aircraft indeed, as was British aviation the decade after WW2. Look at this, the Avro 707, a third size Vulcan that first flew in 1949.
