Default Sluggish, poor performance

Hi
I have just bought a 1999 2.9 S80 (non turbo). It had a number of know faults that I have resolved. Namely full service including plugs, and two new O2 sensors bank one and 2 position 2. I have a diagnostic fault code reader and it now reads OK (the O2 sensors were both listed as faulty). The car is very sluggish and doesn't perform well at all, it idles OK. It's LPG and is the same on both petrol and LPG so I am assuming it's not a fuel issue.

Does anyone know where I should look next? The acceleration is very poor and the engine appears to be struggling. It also appears to run very hot but I am not used to this car so it may be normal. The exhaust gas was almost too hot to bear coming out of the tail pipe. As I said there are no fault codes reported.

Many thanks in advance

Dave

What plugs have you used? Genuine Volvo are considered to be the best you can fit. What are you using the read the codes? An 18 year old car will have a stack of codes logged if read with the correct tool i.e. VIDA and Dice.

Hi Simon

Thanks for replying. I used Bosch plugs from GSF that were for the car based on the reg. They are the 3 electrode type. Are these OK?
I used a Snooper with WOW! software for the diagnostics. The original issue after the service was the O2 sensors based upon previous experience with another car, i,e hunting when revs held at 2000 and loosing power when pressing the accelerator down. The diagnostics stated the two rear O2 sensors were the problem and having replaced then the revs hold up fine and the fault codes have gone. The EODB status is now OK. There are faults reported on several other systems that I will investigate but it looks like the engine management is OK. The car message system still says emission system requires servicing but I think this may be as I haven't cleared it properly.

It is the auto version and I haven't run the diagnostics on the gearbox.

The one thought I have is that these looks to be an oil leak coming from the front LHS of the engine. I was wondering if the breather system could be blocked or a problem?

Many thanks

Dave

I think I have resolved this problem now. It was a number of vacuum leaks the main one being due to a warped air filter cover at the rear.
