Sluggish on pull off

Hi All. I just bought a 2003 - V40 - 2.0 Estate. Manual. ( Lovely car and if i had known Volvo drives so awesome i would have made the cross over years ago ) The car has 150 000 km (93800 miles for my UK family. Yep i was from Scotland) on the clock and is in immaculate condition. However, the rev's on pull off is very sluggish and sometimes i do stall. The car drives lovely though and i seem to be maintaining a 10.5L per 100 km average in town with ac on. Normal driving i have no complaints. She is smooth and you really feel the acceleration above 3000rpm. But, when the car idles it sounds a bit rough and there is this noise from the left of the engine when facing the engine from the front. While the engine was running i pulled the dip stick out and there was this release of pressure. The noise immediately disappeared. When i replace the dip stick the noise returns. etc. I checked this on the forums and all indications is that it could be the PCV. Duplicating the forum advise i checked the oil filler cap. If the engine is running is sucks so much that it takes huge effort to release and remove the oil filler cap. So its sucking very well and not blowing which would be confirmation that it is the PCV. And at the dip stick there is absolutely no smoke at all. Any advise?

I just went through the post regarding the VVT Solenoid and Pulley. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=205198

I pulled off the plug and the noise stopped. Seems it must be the pulley making this noise. Because this has an important roll on the timing i am sure this must be causing the sluggish behavior on acceleration as well. My question now is. Will this break? Or can i drive like this for awhile? I did read another post about changing the thickness of my oil as a temporary fix. Any advise?

I suppose the second question is. Can i put on a new pulley myself? The part is affordable but the labour is off the scale for me.

I do still need assurance that the PCV is okay.

If there is a strong vacuum whilst the engine is running, there is nothing wrong with the PCV, that is how it should be. Pressure in the crankcase indicates the PCV is blocked and needs changing.

Do i take it that my problem is with the VVT Solenoid and more specifically the VVT Pulley then? And i suppose this is the cause of he sluggish pull off and higher fuel usage, Can i sort this out later? Will it break?
