Leeway on servicing
My XC60 is due its second service which is happening on Thursday. As of tonight, it's done 36800 miles, so has 200 miles left before it exceeds (what I think to be the limit of) 1000 miles over the due mileage. However, the last mileage was at 18250, so can I actually go to 37250 and stay within the terms of the warranty?
I'm asking tonight because I could do with going somewhere tomorrow but don't want to affect the warranty because it's a lease car and I understand they're real sticklers for the rules!

My current lease company Arval, and the same with previous (Toomey, Skyway, Velo and Leasedrive) all allow 1k either side of the manufacturers service schedule. Including up to 1k added each time.
18.5k, 37k, 65.5k etc..

I would say: Don't see why not.
Although I'm not familiar with precise warranty terms, as far as contract hire obligations are concerned, my dealership seems pretty relaxed about servicing at precise mileages, as long as it's done within reasonable limits. I've taken various Volvos in for servicing somewhat 'late', concerned that I might be in breach, and they've not been in the least bit bothered; once I'm pretty sure it was at least 1k over and there's never been any comeback from dealership or lease co. We can't always predict exactly what and when we'll need our cars for; eg, it would be pretty unfair to penalise you for running over the prescribed limit in an emergency, just before a service is due - so if it doesn't much matter then, it should be OK in other circumstances - imho...! But just to be on the safe side, always keep the dealership informed if it has, or is about to happen.

When Volvo used to offer lifetime care there was a stipulation that it had to be serviced within a 1000 mile window of the due mileage. I don't know the terms of the Volvo warranty but nowadays some manufacturers are more relaxed about a full dealer history - though they will use it as an excuse if they can.
For example of a wheel bearing failed at 38,000 miles - you cannot claim that its failure was down to incorrect servicing. If then engine failed however they would probably say the incorrect oil was used... Don't forget though although the dealer would prefer you get it serviced with them on the nose - it is still in their interests to get warranty claims through. On some cars they will make more margin on warranty work than servicing - just ask anyone who used to sell Lada's.
