Android only I'm afraid. I used an old redundant one, it doesn't even need a SIM card, so shouldn't be too hard to find.

Don't over think this.
With a simple bleed you can pull the whole unit.
There are 3 bolts on the lower rail. That hold the ABS system.
So disconnect the block with the lines. Pull the whole unit.

You will be able to access the torx , use a vice grip or what ever.
You can also fix the degraded motor wires.

Bite the bullet, other methods are going to be far harder than just bleeding the system.

I actually did that in the end and the light stayed on, maybe my soldering skills aren't up to scratch? Had to dremel the top off one of the bolts so need to source a new one now and potentially a new ECU as I don't think the reconditioners accept ones that have already been opened (happy to be proven wrong though!)

Did you check the insulation on the pump motor wires?
Also check you haven't blown the fuse

If resoldering hasn't cured it see the aforementioned Duke1's thread: help needed early 850 abs, reward offered!

And also see SwedishInside's thread: I Think I Know What This Might Be! (ABS UNIT)

Have you driven the car for a number of star/stop cycles since? Mine took a few before the fault 'memory' cleared itself.

I've tried removing the unit but can only get the top 2 bolts undone, it looks like the bottom 2 are stripped and won't move. I've tried E5, E4, 4mm and 5/32 bits to no avail, even with some penetrating fluid (although they are very hard to get to)

I've made sure the last 2 MOTs have been on as cold a day as possible in February but I feel my luck may run out this year - any engine management lights on will be an automatic MOT fail

What can I do now? Any help gratefully received!
hi its not always the module as i found out either the brake light switch (just because brake lights work doesnt mean switch is good, its a 2 channel switch one for brakelight one for signal to abs module and one set of contacts breaks) more likely though is the brake position sensor this is on the brake servo just below master cyl and is held in place with a wire circlip, removal is easy.
once removed you need to prise open the case gently and will likely find the circuit board no longer attached to the 2 solder joints and just floating about and this tricks you because it is not a permanent fault when you hit a bump or go uphill the abs light may go out and reappear later, solder the board back on and it likely fix the issue, much easier and cheaper than a abs module, good luck
