Nice one.
£30 instead of £1000, that's what motor clubs are all about.

A few weeks ago the offside rear calliper on my S60 started sticking.
Stripped down, checked the discs, pads didn't bother checking the shoes as it had all been done fairly recently, the calliper was the issue.

Cleaned it all up, got it working. It started sticking again last week so decided to take it into Volvo.

1 week and two trips later, I now have all new discs, pads, shoes calliper strip and rebuild (yeah right!) and a bill for 785€
Picked the car up last Saturday, still felt like the rear brakes were binding and the offside rear disc was hotter than the nearside. Took the car back on Tuesday, "Leave it with us, it'll be ready Thursday"

Picked it up tonight, no binding, great I thought until I tried the handbrake. I can now drive around with the handbrake full on with no slowing down what-so-ever.
How do these garages get to have the Volvo name over the door ?

They get one more chance then Volvo will be notified and will get involved.

I've suspected mine for a few weeks, since sometimes the handbrake came up a long way, & others not very far. It passed the MOT fine this week, apart from an advisory for a slight drag on one of the rear wheels. Later that day, when the disks were removed, we found both shoes on each side had separated completely. This on a low-milage 11 year-old car. Do check them.

Smile Handbrake arm

The S60/V70 handbrake system isn't the best ive found in the volvo range!.. and the arm does come up a fair way in comparison with other cars, its easily adjusted using a 10mm nut (pull up the gaiter vertically) you'll see a white plastic cover, pull this up and you'll see the nut there. Was the first thing i fiddled with on my S60 when i got it !, a good test is to pull up on the handbrake level when your travelling at walking pace, gently to start with - you'll probably hear a lot of grinding !,, esp if no one has ever done this in past.. hopefully the car will come to rest albeit not in a hurry.

The other thing you'll notice is there's a lot of 'slop' in the handbrake, if say your parking on a hill applying handbrake, you'll feel the car move back a few inches before the handbrake is locked - all of the above don't exactly inspire confidence ! but are pretty normal in my experience.

Indeed this is correct, the footbrake acts on the rear disks, the handbrake uses small shoes which act on the small drum within the center of the disk, to get at the shoes you have to remove the caliper (with carrier), the combined disk/ drum then simply comes off the hub once you have removed the wheel location pin.

Worth spending an hour to check the state of the handbrake shoes as they often get neglected, when I checked mine both shoe friction linings wern't attached to their shoe, fortunately I got to it before any lasting damage occured - Mike

My car also slips back 2 inches after handbrake applied. Is this correctable?

My V70 and both S60's have all done this kind of thing.
