Question need some advice

Basically my t5 has failed it mot big time. I've managed to source the parts and possible fitting with a fellow member (i'm waiting for a reply) the garage I normally use has said it'll cost around 1000 to fix and that's with me doing half the work.

The list is
Front shocks
Front drivers disc (i've changed the other but a rounded bolt beat me)
Control arms, I have the parts.
Front bearings
Handbrake, I've got new shoes
Rear pads and discs, I have
A rear spring
Windscreen

I plan on doing the handbrake and rear brakes but wouldn't have a clue with the other stuff so its garage work. But I've seen other cars that may be a better option. 1 a V70R in Leeds for 800 but its got a short mot. The others a phase 2 D5 but I need 7 seats, I'm able to rip the 1 out of mine if I decide to get rid but would they fit a phase 2. I'm guessing the would the R since its the same shape as my 850.

Thumbs down

I would fix the car - the parts aren't too expensive.

£100 for 2 new front shocks.

£100 each for new front hubs with the bearing.

Sounds like you have the other stuff.

I would rather spend £300 and know the car is sound than but another one which may need money spending on it.

The car with the short MOT could have a bunch of problems of it's own, and cost you another wad of cash when it's due it's MOT; like Ecurie said, at least you know things are sound when you've sorted that list - better the devil you know etc. etc.
Alternatively, if the seller of the car with the short MOT is confident in his/her car, challenge them to put a fresh MOT on it as part of your bargaining...

I'm now keeping turboshed. Thanks to rips on here. He's beat the garage quotes by miles and willing to pick the car up from work, supply the hub assemblies, front struts, rear spring, wing and skirt for the price less than the garage wanted for the parts.

That then leaves me a rounded bolt to get round to change the disc, rear discs and shoes and pads. All of which I have the parts so once payday comes hopefully she'll be back on the road
