Default 10 year or 100,000 miles offer.

I am a bit late on this subject, but have just read a thread in the general threads on www.vvspy.com clearly contributed to by a knowledgable Volvo 'insider'.

He does state that only those ETM's supplied to Volvo by Magnetti Marelli may give problems and not those made by Bosch.

I also gather from his contribution that the current Volvo Cars UK offer is to replace free any defective MM made module with a new replacement having a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty.

If that is indeed the case, then in my view that is a particularly fair offer.

Regards, Don.Norchi.

Hi,

The problem here is that, from what seems to be happening to those affected, Volvo CS and the dealers seem to be unaware of this generous offer.

Customers are still, on the face of it being offered a paltry 30% discount (10% dealer + 20% Volvo UK)..

So it would seem that, even though this offer is on the plate, it has not been conveyed to the people who are responsible for its implementation...

Thanks for the info Don..

Thanks for the link Don,

I've just joined Volvo Spy in order to add to that thread. We don't seem to have been offered the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, but that would go a long way to rectifying the problem.

Let's see if "Insider" has any more info on that.

I've also asked why the MM sufferers can't change to a Bosch unit.

The software is not compatible, seems the latest Bosch is far removed from the previous system used. Shame but there you go, progress as they say

Thanks Engineer, I suspected as much, but the C70 and S80 and S60 models that transitioned through this period coped with the change to the ETM without much else being changed - engines being the same for example. Why not just switch to the new Bosch software too?

You could Oli but the cost might be more than the cars worth, unless you engineer it yourself. But why settle for the Bosch ME7? Just go ME9 and have done with it, until that wears out, what you really need is a true electronic ETM system with no electical / mechanical moving parts.

Merry Xmas

Engineer.
