Anyway the car is (might be) going on Saturday. £850 from a dealer on px

Looks like I'm buying a CLK (this might change to a range rover if I get my way)

Shaun
You are bothered about a few hundred extra on your current car against a huge hike in road tax and fuel economy on a RR and servicing and general running costs on both?

EH?????

The RR or Merc will be used by me and the mrs. We have worked out if we both get rid of out cars (we only use them 1 at a time and at weekends) we could buy 1 "weekend" motor.

The tax will be less and the insurance will be dramatically less than both combined.

Bit long winded I know!! She got £7k for her 1 series. So every penny from me counts.

Yes I know a RR will make me a t0sser! Ha!

Sorry not having a dig, might be missunderstanding this. Are you wanting to go from 2 daily drivers to one daily and one fun car?

So going from the 2 daily's of the V40 and a 1 series, to a RR/CLK as a daily and another weekend car?

I have personal experience of this as me and the (soon to be ex wife - My V40 is my divorce car!) went from my A4 and her Smart down to on lease car (through her employer) and a '72 bug for fun and the odd commute (so £65 a year ins and no RFL), so if this is the case i am totally with you on the theory!

If i was you i would check what cars (for the weekend toy) fall under Classic insurance, massive savings to be had there and its surprising what does, check with Lancaster insurance if you are unsure. What RR are you thinking, for the love of all that is wholly don't buy:

Any P38 - Air suspension WILL go and then its not worth fixing
Any Diesel 6 - unless you like being overtaken by everything...they really are that slow only get a V8 Derv
Any non LPG Petrol unless you have your own oil rig...traded V8 P38's and L322's and sub 15MPG is the norm, However the LPG systems on them are complex so probably best avoided unless you have deep pockets!

Basically im saying only buy a V8 Derv L322...and it wont make you a To$$er they are a deeply lovely thing to cruise about in, plus you will be laughing come the snow!

CLK's i don't like, had a 230 PH1 Komp as a company car, horrid thing to drive and went rusty in under 12 months, the latter version, a friend had a 320CDI from new a 57 plat IRRC, it was awful on fuel (sub 30MPG) and all sorts went wrong with it, I drove it once and wasn't impressed for the type of car.

If its a diesel coupe in a German Flavor you want, the 3 series is a much nicer car and actually handles. The BMW 6 oil burners are very nice, great noise and decent economy. Bro in law has run a string of them from 525D through 335D and all of them have impressed me a huge amount. I think the injectors on his E60 530D went at 150k miles (he is sales) and cost him £800 but otherwise don't thing anything major has gone on any of them.

However in terms of your Volvo i would take what you can get and move on, in a few months when you have your 2 new motors the few hundred quid wont matter at all as you will be enjoying your motoring so much more!

We are going from 2 cars down to 1 (not including my van)

The car will only be used at weekends, holidays and shopping (maybe)

We are still undecided. I enjoy my v40 but I can afford something a bit more flash.

I have seen a mk2 escort RS2000 but she said no and showed me a fiat 500 abarth I laughed!

So its RR/CLK/RS2000/Abarth 500....your tastes are as varied as mine!

In all seriousness though go and have a go in an Esesse 500 and tell me its not an absolute Hoot!

Speaking of mercs, may I suggest trying a...CLS...brilliant car. I tried the 320 diesel and it was bloody rapid! Beautiful car....shame I'm too poor to have one!

Prepare to hate me....

When i was 16 my dad built a westfieeld SE8 which a got to drive a bit when i passed my test, i had an RS4 for a bit before thee M5 it was bought to trade but i loved it and decided i needed a big german muscle car hence the M5, never owned a Cossy 190 but a mate did and i hooned it down to (not round) the ring in 2006, lovley car but...slow! when i was a kid my dad (from essex) had a blue saph cossie, awesome car, my mum made him sell it because it was too fast! Traded a few RR's, owned a Ph1 CLK (horrid as previously stated) RS 2000 of course never had, but i did have a 'scort GTI, it was ar$e but still

Mate currently runs (as his work car AKA pluming van) a very late model Mk1 T5 C70...i love it, very lovely thing, but a cruiser and nothing more. Currently has a dodgy drivers window though...apparently a rather costly fix!

I'd give you the part ex value plus 50 quid if you were interested in it staying in the road a while longer.

Only must haves are fabric interior, no body rust, and service history, the latter of which you clearly have
