Default The Fuel Challenge

Well, the gasman is back from Norway - on the last boat from Kristiansand to Newcastle yesterday. Sad.....however I have been improving my figures for the purposes of the challenge. Needless to say. LPG users can get a mileage figure every tankful as we fill up to the top each time automatically.
Now my "punt" for LPG range is 280 miles on 45.07 litres, = 27.6 mpg.........and as for how much I'd get on my 25L of petrol, dunno, I use maybe 3 gallons a quarter and ain't going to fill it for nobody, this is YORKSHIRE!
Any improvements on 27.6mpg fellow VOLVO gasmen?
Remember 27.6 = 66.3 mpg equivalent..........so sadly not in diesel territory!

I get 300 to 350 from Petrol and another 320-340 from LPG which makes 620 - 690 on mine.

Hi,

Just filled up my tank (and that took ages, even from just under half full!!) and used V-Max or whatever it is..
Used a litre just to get back from the garage!!

Will be off to Hollyhead tomorrow, then escape from Dublin, then on.
Shall see how far this tank can take me..

Could you bare driving like an old fart for a whole tanks worth of fuel?

More fun would be to see who could get the leat mileage out of a tank of fuel (Solo, no Caravans or trailers allowed)
Volvo 854 T5 manual with RICA 304 ECU running on Shell V-Power. I mainly commute 25 miles a day in a mix of stood traffic and a 8 mile stretch of rolling traffic.

I refilled with Tesco 99 RON. 0.88 / litre x 5 / 1.1 = £4.00 / gallon.
£50.30 / 4 = 12.58 gallons.

260 miles / 12.58 = 20.67mpg

I remember a couple of years ago when I got 600 miles to an empty tank on my computer.

In the end that tank got me 480 miles to the tank.

V70 T5 1998

I thought this was alright, I still average 350 to 400.

Just a quick update, filled up tank from half a tank (29litres added) and drove 160 miles in one day and still have well over half a tank left. Road conditions motorway (junction 10a - 22 M5), A/B roads around Somerset back to Bath then up the A46 to Cheltenham. I was driving normally and did overtake if warranted and my speed on the motorway was between 70 - 80mph

So far roughly 30 mpg... Not bad for a 740 turbo 2.3

I'm going down to Bournemouth on Tuesday so I'll put more fuel in when I need it, more info when I get back.

Here is a basic result from full to just above red (2-3mm) on my car 320 miles all driving conditions and all types of road and not with economy purely in mind (normal driving), I could've got more out of it but didn't fancy running out on roads I don't know.. 89 745 2.3 turbo intercooler B230ET.

Unfortunatley when I needed to put fuel in I couldn't find the right fuel so only put enough 97 ron in (Esso) to get home. I will perform a proper test over the next few days as I'm off to Essex and will get an accurate result.

Hi,

Just back from Ireland. Those roads need serious maintenance!!!

My full tank got me 378 miles before I needed to fill/top up.
The tanks, however, was not empty and had not reached the low fuel warning point.

I used 135.57 litres of petrol an traveled 764.2 miles.
135.57 ltrs = 29.82 Gals
This works out at 25.63 miles per gallon.

Journey out mostly at 75-80mph then 65mph to destination.
Some traffic and town driving and sitting in the car, engine running in contemplation!
A few leasurely trips and the journey home.
Homeward was 65 to port and the 65-75 back home.

Not bad for a 3.0 guzzler...

Welcome back Des, Do you mean to say you've found roads that are worse than ours or just on a par with us?? 25.63 mpg that's not bad at all......
