Default Gibbons method guide??

Hi, please could somebody post a link to the Gibbons method of changing the ATF for the latter 6 speed geartronic, as I can only find guides for the 5 speed version (or is it the same?)
Thanks

I dont know, I assumed it was a general guide to all auto boxes.
IN through dipstick pipe,
OUT via drain plug and/or pipe to oil cooler, pumed around with engine running

There is a guide in the articles section at the top of this section. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=160569

Thanks for the replies.

Yes Kenny, I'd seen that guide also, but unfortunately it is only for a simple drop and refill of the sump, which doesn't include the torque converter etc. The Gibbons method is for a complete fluid flush, as Volvoid says it uses the pipe to cooler, and pump, to expel oil from the various components within the 'box. I'd like to do it on mine, but would like a "how-to" showing the correct process, including how to reset the gearbox into "adaptive" mode and how to complete the adaptions routine.

Does anybody know of one?

Thanks

To do a complete flush you need 14 litres of gearbox oil and there is 2 types for the TF80 boxes depending on year of your car and neither of them is normal ATF,

You also need about 14 litres to do a proper flush and vida/dice to check oil temp for final level check and to reset adaptions

8 litres will shift 90% of the old oil, use much more and you're wasting it, its not cheap
Guide to Gibbons method - theres a few on here if you search for them.
People also do their own variations. Having done it I dont think the exact process is critical.

The easiest is by the pipe to the oil cooler, plug a 1/2" (to be confirmed) tube into the radiator where the pipe connects into the radiator (leave the cooling line disconnected, it won't pump oil), start the engine (preferably warmed a bit) and let it pump 3qts of oil, stop the engine, pour 3qts of fresh oil by the dipstick with a long-flexible funnel, then repeat the whole thing until the pumped oil is red clear. Measure precisely the pumped and the refilling volumes to be the same.

Hi Cherished5, unfortunately I don't have vida/dice. Does that mean I can't reset and do the adaptions?

I have the pdf for the XC90 (same gearbox) - uploaded below

I wrote the item in "Articles" and never dared try the gibbons method, just doing a drain/fill of 3 litres every year. I found this xc90 guide whilst doing my research prior to attempting the oil change

If you manage the gibbons method, please write-it-up
