Glad to hear you don't give a toss about the next owner of your car having a multitude of problems. Look after number one, hey??????????? |

I think this comment should be directed at Volvo and not the owners, if you own a say 2002 s60 with a load of miles what's it worth now? I think it's volvo who don't give a toss or something should be done (it's just the horrid dispensable world we live in - fix it by whatever means or send it to the scrap yard)

I have to agree that there does seem to be a problem here, who is going to pay for a £1,500 fix on say a car worth £1,000. So you are left with a choice either scrap the car or try to keep it running by what ever means you can think of, even if that only lasts another 12 months.
It is the electrical/computer items which are the problem as there seems to be no alterative but to buy and fit a new module at the dealer. It would be interesting to know how much it costs Volvo to make some of theses items. It is certainly not environmentally friendly to scrap a decent car just because one computer module needs to be replaced. This can't be doing Volvos reputation any good. |

I'm not sure I agree with that, I'm sure I heard about gangs stealing cars and then breaking them up and shifting the parts individually. Dodgy scrapyards were the most common outlet.
So, as much as it is a pain in the neck to have all the electronics coded in, if it cuts down on the number of thefts then it really is a good thing. However, where it is possible to re-code at the dealers (and it sometimes is), it should be offered for reasonable prices.

Th.is is the second dim i have had to get thats gone wrong so i got in touch with volvo coventry told themthat there is a design fault and that with the heater matrix being at the back of the dash that with the hot and cold tempratures it was causing cracks in the curcuit board, this was comfirmed by a auto electrician before i called volvo, they told me that the have never had any issues with the dims and i was the only one to enquire (yeah right)they told me to take my s60 to a dealer at my expence to have it checked out and report back to them .
