I find that as I usually have my satnav on, it changing to night colours is a good indication.

If not set to the same level of lighting by means of the knob, the drivers display will also differ.

With reference to the 'green' pilot assist warning, I have HUD and this displays a duplicate symbol right in the driver's line of vision, no bleeps or sounds necessary in my case as loss of pilot assist is instantly visible!
I do agree that a 'dipped beam activated' symbol would be nice, but as someone else has said, with the brightness of the Thor's Hammer DRL's and the fact that Volvo rear lights are always 'on', even in poor visibility we are better protected than drivers of some other premium brand cars!

I just leave the headlights on auto all the time so as far as i'm concerned they are on until the car tells me something is wrong. I have the Shadow tech lights so if they are not working it is obvious when I start the car as they do the 'dance'.

The lane assist is no good for driving itself it continually wanders from the left side to the right side of the centre of the lane , whilst staying in lane .

Here's me thinking it was a self driving aid to make driving less stressful on those long motorway journeys, as long as you keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Seriously though, the reason I would like a warning bong when PA2 drops out is because I am keeping my hands on the wheel and eyes on the road while PA2 is in use and you dont always notice immediately that the green indicator has grayed out when PA2 drops out, and the first indication you get is when the car starts to drift on a bend and you have to apply steering manually but there may be a moments delay as your brain is computing whether the steering is going to react and glancing down to see the grayed out indicator, by which time you are reacting instinctivly but PA2 might have dropped out several vital seconds before the bend and if there was a warning you would immediately take control. I hope all that makes sense. Last edited by nu11eaf; Feb 15th, 2018 at 00:02. |

Mine only go up and down. But they are not the active bending-shadowing kind.

Some are missing my point, or maybe I didn't fully explain. I don't rely on the car to drive me on pilot assist. I have a hand on the steering wheel, but an audible note to tell me that control had passed back to me would be good. Headlights wise, yes the drl's are bright, but I prefer to be seen properly. In foggy conditions they won't turn on. I don't have hud or shadow lights. I think you may find that the main screen and dash have a separate light detector, so won't necessarily dim when the dipped beam comes on. Possibly the same with the ambient lights. I'll check though.
