Spoke to chap at work (mechanic) who says may not be easy to do as the switch may be sending a signal via canbus.

From what I can decipher so far, it’s a ‘switch only’ direct to the pbm which is where the canbus signals pick it up. If the weather holds up there may be time for a prototype mock up this weekend.

Since this is allied to the extra parking brake button project, can anyone advise whether the blank buttons on the central console are actually buttons with electrical make and break mechanisms? I can understand putting solid blanking covers into unused switch apertures but why would you fit a spring loaded blank that did nothing unless it was actually a real button. If it really is an operable button, I would hope to lever it out and wire it in parallel with the EPB "on" wiring and have a very neat location for the EPB "on" button. Anyone know what these spring loaded blanks are in the central console?

I believe the buttons are part of the PCB in these facelift models and activated by VIDA for the various options available.
So there's no actual switch aperture, you get a new button to replace the blank to show what the new function is.
I think for your project you're going to be looking at a standalone switch mounted elsewhere.
