Default Private Locking

Hi, first time poster here as I have an issue I thought I'd submit to the forum. I have an XC90 MY2016, and while it's a great car its software has always been extremely glitchy (heating needed to be fixed, screens black out, random error messages), sudden breaking etc). I have put up with these, though my wife would rather we bought something more stable instead - the car drives her nuts.

The latest issue though isn't (I think) a glitch. I had the care valeted on Saturday morning, but when I got back home I discovered the boot wouldn't work. We thought at first it was a key issue, but then noticed the glovebox wouldn't open; it asked for a code. Looking in the manual, we discovered private locking. We have never set this up, or used it (unless my 9 year old has been fiddling....) and so I can only assume that in cleaning the screen, the valet happen to accidently trigger it. Anyway, we have neither a code, nor a "superior code" which is apparently the override code needed if you've forgotten the onetime pin.

I used Volvo On Call to talk to Volvo, and they sent me a Pin number. However, it didn't work and seems to be the Pin number needed to link your car to your Volvo On Call subscription. The chap at Volvo On Call though didn't seem to be able to do anything else. Equally, neither the Volvo on call app on my iPhone, nor a factory reset of the car settings (which was a pain, as we lost all navigation history and user profiles) has sorted this. So, now we have car whose tailgate cannot be opened.

We will take to Doves in Croydon to sort, but our experience there has typically been that they are not so hot on the software issues and the car ends up staying there for ages.

As such, I wondered if anyone knew of a quick fix? I assume not (as it would devalue the whole concept) and I haven't found anything on the web, but I'm keen to avoid driving to Croydon if I can help it.....

Thanks for any help

Will

Yep, this is private locking.

The VOC handler can provide an unlock code, although you suggest this doesn't work.

I'd pop into your dealer for advice. They can fix themselves - hopefully you can convince them it's urgent!

Doves are my local dealer too and like you I haven't been massively impressed. Not sure how close they are to you but I've found Parkside in Orpington to be much more helpful and friendly.

Hi Will,

Did you get this sorted, as it has just happened to me this weekend.

Cheers

I have another issue with Private Locking. It simply does not exist on mine. At the beginning I thought it was a requirement to have the electric rear seat folding seats to be enabled or the locking glove box, but I came across a 2019 XC60 T8 recently which not only did it not have electrical folding rear seats but it was also lacking the electric rear hatch door which I found very strange for an Inscription model with leather dashboard and HK sound system but not electric boot. Anyway this vehicle did have the private locking "button" on sensus, and mine with keyless entry and electric boot does not have it.

Do you all have it? Is there a way to activate it?

Just checked on my XC60 T5 - if you swip the Center Sensus to access the Right side display, you should find the "Private Locking" icon in the middle of the bottom block of icons.
Then access it with a PIN Code needed for the 1st time you set up it.
You can also use the search function on the In-Car Owners Manual for more details, etc.

The handbook states:-

Quote:
If private locking is activated and the car is
unlocked via Volvo On Call* or the Volvo On
Call* app, private locking will be deactivated
automatically.

Still all answers are welcome but the point is that I am actually missing the icon on sensus itself. So I cannot initiate it or do anything for what it matters since in my car it simply does not exist!!!!

Like it or not you are going to have it booked it in with a Dealer.

Interestingly when I was shopping around for my car, I tried haggling the price down to match other local dealers. The sales guy from Dove suggested that they were worth paying extra for the level of service they provide.

I did my initial test with Parkside. Decent service and will probably service the car there as they are the closest dealer to me. The only reason I didn't go with them was price - they were about 5% more
