Default 144 front crossmember replacement

Hi!!

I need to replace rotten front crossmember - runs directly under radiator - just got new replacment part.

I put car up on ramp today to have a look – it does seem quite straightforward, but I’m no bodywork expert, and was wondering if anyone here has ever welded one of these in place before?

I was hoping that you could just unbolt slam panel above rad by bonnet latch, unbolt crossmember (2 bolts?), remove bumper assembly, then I assume there are spot welds holding it in place to chassis.

Be great if the rad/coolant/trans fluid could all stay put!!

Thanks,

Kevin

Has been some time since I last did one of these. from what I remember you need to remove the front pannel, all bolted on its best to do this or youll cut through it.You will need to remove the radiator you won't want to cut that!!! and you need room to work. take your time cut out with grinder, cut close to but not touching.then grind back remains. Tack in position, trail fit front pannel then full weld (seam welds are stongest-ensure all sufaces are clean-very important) paint (not Hammerite) them reassemble. If you need further call me on 01407 832 290
