Chatting with a knowledgeable friend this afternoon - If you knock it with your knuckle and it's "dead" it is composite. If it has any sort of resonance to it it is likely to be aluminium. Interesting one isn't it!

alluminium but a harder grade , probably for pedestrian safety so that when their head hits the bonnet it absorbes the impact and deforms ...( the bonnet not the head ! )

I had a Megane Scenic and the wings were plastic,for pedestrian impact, you could push them in with your hand.

yes indeed , but at least they pop out again undamaged , Citroen use them too .

Since I've only just received my car I'll wait until I rate it. I would be quite interested to know at what point, the few that have rated it low, did they start seeing problems? immediately, 1000miles, more or less?

Just over 600 miles, no messages yet (cross fingers) I'll be happy if i Get to 1500 miles and no message. I will also check the dipstick then too.
