Default Audio Issues Mk1 XC90 . Help with VIDA

My radio has stopped working. Occasionally it turns on long enough to show High Performance Audio. Then the display turns off again. I can't get any sound out of it. Sometimes it will show the Parking Assistance Active message, but no beeps.
I have checked all of the associated fuses ( I think ) and they are all good.
I have hooked it up to VIDA but I'm not sure how to interpret the fault. I think that I have a break in the MOST fibre optic loop, but maybe I'm wrong. I've attached photos of the screen shots from VIDA .
The ICM is working, which I believe is a good thing, as these are known to fail.

Any assistance gratefully accepted.

Well, it looks like I jumped to conclusions.
The ICM, which VIDA says is active, has no laser output on rear, so it looks like this is the issue.
Now I need to decide on having this repaired (£160), buying second hand and hoping for the best (about £90) or fitting aftermarket and being able to use more up to date media (about £200 on the cheap).

I'm thinking of going for the latter.
Has anybody tried the Bass Junkies adapter kit to retain the reverse beeper and steering controls? The beeper isn't a deal breaker as any new kit has reverse camera options which I'd fit anyway.

You still need the central display bit from the radio or half the car stops working. I've added an aftermarket unit using the connects2 kit, steering controls work and reverse sensors.

Yeah. I noticed that. Can't understand the logic of the wiring.
What did you do with your display part? I'm thinking of removing the PCB and tucking it away behind the dash.

Which aftermarket unit did you go for? I'm going to have to stay cheap and cheerful and use a generic Android based unit, rather than branded.

Hi, my recommendation is to speak to lucasz at Volvo diagnostics. He will fix yours for £160 and will give a lifetime warranty. Lots of forum members have chosen this route.

I watched him sort mine and as a retired retired electronics engineer, would personally not attempt the fix

He is a forum member based in Essex so easy for me, but given your car vin, he will prepare and send you a replacement.

Hope this helps

Yep. I had Lucazs repair my DIM, and he's great. But I reckon £160 on a unit with limited functionality (no phone pairing, no aux input etc) is probably a waste of money.
I've decided now that I'll replace the headset with a double DIN Android based unit and buy the adapter kit to keep the steering controls.
All in £230 ish (depending on head set).
This will give me built in sat nav, reverse camera function, bluetooth for phone, USB and SD card so I don't have to carry lots of CDs. All for an extra £70. Hope I'm jumping the right way, but time will tell.

Hi, I understand. I just like my car to operate as designed and that makes me happy.

I know the sat nav is a bit clunky, the park sensors a bit 'old hat', the phone is out of the arc, and who uses mini disc these days? But they all work. I have premium audio and that's fine for me. I just use an FM modulator to integrate my phone and works fine.

So, for me the fix of ICM was best price wise/ time wise/ risk wise.

Good luck with the adaption

Well, mine was basic, so I didn't have Sat Nav, or phone, or mini disc.
Usually I do like to try to keep things as fitted, or, at least, looking like it.

The new one is in. Cheap Chinese unit (Xgody) but they get good reviews.
I need to come up with a better idea for antenna, but so far it was a good investment. The steering wheel control adapter was the most expensive part, but I really wanted to keep this function.
The stereo has built in sat nav and comes with reversing camera. I can stream music from my phone or use SD card, USB, MP3 disc, even DVD.
All for £230 (including the steering control adapter).

The car is pretty much back together, so I can't add pics of how I did it: although the wiring is a mess, so I will be taking things back out to tidy it.I was working through it as I went along, rather than planning in advance (had to figure it out on the hoof!).

The radio was £90 on Ebay, then I got the Connects2 adapter for £140 from Bass Junkies. Both arrived really quickly. The adapter comes with a new fascia panel as well. Although the surround for the radio doesn't quite fit and will need a little adaptation, so it's not fitted yet.
This is the radio

And this is the adapter kit

I'll add some photos shortly
