With out model I think we access this through the wheel arch?
When I was installing the new shocks you could easily see the compressor. What could be used is some old mountain bike disc brake calliper shims that used to use on hope brakes. Used to get the in a variety of sizes, could potentially use these cut up just need to make sure they are the right thickness.

Thats funny, I have some mtb gear cable lying around. Hoping I could smash that down enough with a hammer but it wouldnt bend into shape around that clutch part. I dont know if maybe some of that garden wire would be better for this? as from the video, I need to curl it around to hold in place.

Yeh the tin can slices is a good idea actually. Found another youtube video of a guy that did it with Zipties? surely that would completly close the gap up which wouldnt alow you to disengage?

I managed to do mine today which was good and worked a treat on test. I ended up using zip ties as the thickness was correct for mine. The clutch gap was 0.8 so I used a zip tie and tapped it down to a width 0.4 as I think the gap should of been 0.3. Ac clutch disengaged nicely as well.

Thanks Dom, good work on that. I might tackle it today and see what happens.

You need to deal with someone who is experienced and knowledgeable with car a/c. The reason my original compressor wore out was thanks to a previously botched mobile 're-gas' merchant who didn't add any oil (he said the oil was 'still in the system mate') took the money and buggered off.

It's really important to use quality gas too (not mixed/recovered stuff from loads of other cars) and high quality oil - seriously expensive oil, only a small cup full goes in but costs over £100 per ltr to buy.
You don't need to add oil during a simple re-gas. Where has the oil gone? As he said it's still in the system, it's only the gas that leaks out over time. Adding more oil can actually be detrimental to the system operation as it coats the inside surface of the evaporator tubes impeding heat exchange. The only time you need to add oil is when you replace a component, even then add only a small amount as there is already oil spread round the system.
