As crazy as it sounds I think Mike may be onto something here. There's a chance anyway. The diesel pump timing on these TDi's is so critical, I'm wondering if the pump flywheel momentum was such that during the hard braking it's moved the equivalent of a notch. As I said, sounds crazy.....but not I think impossible. Especially if pump belt is worn...etc etc.

Also during the hard stopping/braking maybe sediment/crap in the tank was disturbed?

Good luck anyway, these sort of problems test the most patient of us.....

I'm doing an engine rebuild on my D5252t, and have a few spare pipes and stuff...
could anyone send som photo's of there engines mounted in theire cars?
especially around the diesel pump, and around the alternator belt, the tensioner on the alternatior belt. there seems to be some kind of bracket holding the tensioner including the tensioner.

Default Same problem

Watching this post with interest. I've had Vera Volvo same age make for many years. Serviced twice yearly. 250000 miles so engine about run in bless her. Lol
As I'm a girl I haven't the foggiest what is wrong with old Vera. My glow plugs take 20_25 seconds before go out so assume that's a starting point to making her better. I had to get towed to my local garage by the AA last week. The diagnostic showed lots of faults but all were eliminated apart from the immobiliser. Vera tries desperately to start but no fuel getting in will run for fraction of a second on easy start. I can't see it being immobiliser if starts but doesn't run. Had new fuel pumps in April. Garage seems to think glow plugs taking so long wouldn't make any difference to start problem. Said as car old the door lock is no longer aligned so would tell car not to start but it does start just not run. Love my old Vera, she's a shed but she's my shed an would like to get her back to her old self. Any ideas be nice to try. X cheers chaps xx

Sounds like an immobiliser issue. When the relucter ring around the ignition becomes faulty the car will start but only run for a second or 2 then cut out. There are many threads on how to clean the ring or replace it. May also be worth getting the pump timing checked.

As Martin says above...it could be the relucter ring.....But also the timing of the pump belt.
You say it's serviced twice a year.....how many miles have you covered since taking ownership? Have the the cambelt and pump timing belts been replaced whilst you have owned her?
Not every garage have the equipment or knowledge to set the pump timing....If the pump timing is good...she'll start without the need of the glow plugs................
